Occupational Hygiene

Occupational Hygiene

Occupational Hygiene is the science and discipline surrounding the workers’ health and wellbeing, including the environmental impact to the community at large, of processes undertaken by an employee.

Steadfast Workplace Risk services can assist by providing the following:

WORKPLACE AIR MONITORING

Our national team of Occupational Hygienists carry out air monitoring which can include, but is not limited to the following substances:

Asbestos fibres
Respirable dust
Inhalable dust
Respirable Crystalline Silica Quartz
Diesel Particulate Matter (DPM)
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
Mould & E.Coli
Confined space atmospheric testing

AIR QUALITY MONITORING

Our national team can assist you with IAQ assessments, including the following parameters:

Monitoring air contaminants such as CO, CO2, SO2, NO2, VOCs, formaldehyde radon and other pollutants upon request
Measuring suspended particulates matter (PM 2.5, PM 10)
Sampling and analysis of microorganisms (mould and bacteria)
Assessment of thermal comfort (temperature and relative humidity)
Inspection of HVAC systems and airflow

HAZMAT BUILDING INSPECTIONS

A Hazardous Materials Inspection consists of an inspection and report on buildings and structures for materials likely to be hazardous to the health of workers, building occupants and the environment. Hazardous materials identified through our inspection can include but are not limited to:

Asbestos Containing Material (ACM)
Lead Paint & Dust
Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs)
Synthetic Mineral Fibres (SMF)
Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC’s)
Ozone Depleting Substance (ODS)

MOULD IDENTIFICATION & REMEDIATION

We have a team of certified mould testing technicians and mould remediation experts. Our certified team can undertake comprehensive mould building inspections and complete mould remediation of affected areas. Our mould management process includes the following:

Site walkthrough to identify sources and signs of moisture ingress
Bio-tape and air sampling
Moisture content analysis
Temperature, humidity and dew point analysis
Thermal Infrared Imaging
Removal of moisture and mould from homes and workplaces
Post Remediation Verification (PRV)

ACOUSTIC & NOISE SURVEYS

Hazardous noise levels can destroy the ability to hear clearly, resulting in Noise Induced Hearing Loss and can also make it more difficult to hear sounds such as instructions or warning signals necessary for working safely.

Hazardous noise means noise level that exceeds the workplace exposure standard (WES) for noise in the workplace. There are two parts to the WES for noise because noise can either cause gradual hearing loss or immediate hearing loss. The two parts of the WES are:

LAeq,8h of 85dB(A) – that is an 8-hour time-weighted average (8-hour TWA) exposure that is averaged over the duration of the shift, which if exceeded would cause damage to hearing over a period of time; or

LC, peak of 140dB(C) – that is sudden impulse noise from activities such as hammering, explosion, gun shot, being so loud that if exceeded would cause immediate damage to hearing.

Our team of Occupational Hygienists can conduct noise monitoring using the following two methods:

Sound Level Meters
Personal Noise Dosimeters

CONTAMINATED LAND & WATER MANAGEMENT

Our Environmental Scientists can complete the following:

INVESTIGATE

Phase 1 (Preliminary) contamination assessment
Phase 2 (Detailed) contamination assessment
Phase 3 (Remediation Action Plans)
Phase 4 (Validation)
Soil Testing

VALIDATE & MONITOR

Conceptual Site Modelling
Human Health & Ecological Risk Management
Hazardous Material Management
Ongoing Environmental Monitoring

REMEDIATE

Ground & Surface Water Testing
Waste Classification (VENM, BNM, GSW)
Pre-purchase Environmental Due Diligence Reports
Compliance Monitoring

LIGHTING ASSESSMENTS

Lighting is very important to the health and safety of everyone within the workplace. There must be sufficient light to enable your workers to perform tasks without straining their eyes or adopting awkward postures. Our Occupational Hygienists can undertake a workplace Lighting Assessment, to ensure your organisation complies with lighting legislative requirements.

COVID-19 – The Facts

Worldwide COVID-19 cases surpass 103,000,000 cases (as at 02/02/2021)
The COVID-19 virus can live for up to three days on some surfaces, like plastic and steel
Symptoms of COVID-19 can range from mild illness to pneumonia. Some people will recover easily, and others may get very sick very quickly.
The virus can spread from person to person through:

close contact with an infectious person (including in the 24 hours before they started showing symptoms)
contact with droplets from an infected person’s cough or sneeze
touching objects or surfaces (like doorknobs or tables) that have cough or sneeze droplets from an infected person, and then touching your mouth or face

COVID-19 is a new disease, so there is no existing immunity in our community.
The Australian Government recommends social distancing, and good hygiene to protect yourself and others from the virus
