Codes of Practice

This model Code of Practice has been developed to provide practical guidance practical guidance on how to meet the requirements under the WHS Act and Regulations applying in a jurisdiction in relation to work carried out in a confined space. It applies to persons conducting a business or undertaking who have management or control of a confined space, and to designers, manufacturers or suppliers of plant or structures that include, or are intended to include, a confined space.

To have legal effect in a jurisdiction, the model Code of Practice must be approved as a code of practice in that jurisdiction. To determine if this model Code of Practice has been approved as a code of practice in a particular jurisdiction, check with the relevant regulator.

This Code has been revised and republished in February 2014. An amendments table advising the changes that have been made to this Code is included in the February 2014 version. The previous version is located on the Safe Work Australia historical versions page.
